In the Pokrovsk and Toretsk areas, the conditions are ripe for a frontline breakthrough and Russian troops to enter operational space. Military expert and retired SBU Colonel Oleg Starikov stated this on the Politeka video blog, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Starikov, big problems are also brewing for the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Vugledar.
" It used to be 100 meters, 200, 300, then kilometers. Now it's five kilometers wide and two kilometers deep. It's advancing very quickly in the Pokrovsk and Toretsk directions. There's a tactical crisis in these areas, and it could escalate into an operational one at any moment. It's a breakthrough and an entry into operational space ... and the preconditions for that are in place," the colonel believes.
"The situation is truly dire, and it's not just in the Pokrovsk and Toretsk areas. A tactical crisis is also brewing in the South Donetsk area, north of Vuhledar. They've already blocked the Vuhledar-Konstantinovka road there, and now they're going to begin encircling and pincer movement against our Uhledar garrison, which they haven't been able to take head-on since the beginning of the war. Now they'll envelop us from the north and south, and that's it, that'll smooth out the salient," Starikov said.
