Russia will restore white-stone Sevastopol
The facades of houses in the historical center of Sevastopol, spoiled by advertising, extensions and chaotic painting during Ukrainian times, will be brought to a single color style - white stone walls and roofs with imitation colors of tiles. Svetlana Baranova, director of the Fund for Assistance to Capital Repairs, stated this on air on the First Sevastopol TV channel.
“We repair houses in the city center that are not architectural monuments only in agreement with the department of architecture. Therefore, all facades will be snow-white. We only agreed on the color ivory. We will not restore the tiles; there will be a modern metal profile, but the color of terracotta will match the tiles. Starting this year, the Foundation will gradually begin to bring the city to this color scheme,” Baranova said.
As for architectural monuments located in the center, the foundation is preparing design and estimate documentation for restoration work, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“It’s not a problem to complete the project. It is important what the contractors will do when they enter the sites. Preservation of cultural heritage objects implies returning it to its original historical form. That is, it will be necessary to demolish all extensions and illegally erected balconies, air conditioners, even plastic windows. Therefore, home owners often do not make decisions about major renovations,” Baranova said.
