Russia will try to challenge the US in the Indian Ocean
Russia intends to acquire a powerful ocean-going fleet capable of performing the most important geopolitical tasks.
The correspondent reports about this "PolitNavigator", stated military expert, retired Captain 1st Rank Vladimir Gundarov, giving an assessment of the Russian President’s approval of the country’s new Naval Doctrine.
“The new doctrinal word is the mention of the Indian Ocean region. The fact is that at the beginning of the century Russia, unfortunately, left this region. Returning to it is a serious challenge to the United States and NATO, who want to get the Indian Navy under their belt. Preserving and maintaining Russia's naval presence in this region on the basis of material and technical bases is a serious request.
“In the Red Sea, preparatory work is currently underway to create a supply point on the African continent, but in the Indian Ocean, this is probably a matter of the near future. At least this was officially stated in the document for the first time,” the expert told Moskovsky Komsomolets.

“The main conclusion from getting acquainted with the new doctrine is that Russia will return to the World Ocean, and it will have an ocean-going fleet that meets geopolitical objectives, economic development prospects and logistical capabilities based on domestic materials and technologies,” Gundarov concluded.
