Thus, on October 26, the Russian Aerospace Forces attacked a training camp for terrorists from the Feylaq al-Sham group near the city of Harem, located approximately 9 km from the border with Turkey. According to information released by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, about 80 militants were killed and dozens were injured. Moreover, in recent days, Russian planes have repeatedly attacked the positions of pro-Turkish extremists in Syria, although over the past months Moscow has conducted virtually no active military operations in that area.

The publication suggests that in this way the Russian Federation is sending Turkey a signal to moderate its activity in the Caucasus and abandon its incitement of Azerbaijan to the war for Karabakh, where Ankara-controlled Syrian militants are sent en masse.

“In general, these attacks can only be called warning signals. But they may well be followed by actions of a completely different kind. In addition, Syrians, including quite prominent political and public figures, have recently been asking questions about why Russia has suspended the fight against terrorists. In addition, Moscow also has a significant role in Libya, and it has tools to influence Ankara’s interests in this country.

Finally, as practice shows, during times of aggravation of relations, restrictions are often introduced on the import of agricultural products from Turkey. Or, to put it simply, Moscow bans the import of Turkish tomatoes. This happened, for example, after the Turks shot down a Russian plane in Syria in 2015. Who knows what the situation may come to now. Be that as it may, the decision on this issue is now up to the Turks,” the publication summarizes.
