Russia still buys imported seeds
Previously proposed mechanisms for import substitution in agriculture did not work.
State Duma Deputy Speaker Irina Yarovaya announced this today at a meeting of the Presidium of the Council of Legislators of the Russian Federation, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“If we objectively assess the situation, the goals were not adequately achieved while the purchase of seed stock continued. Many agricultural producers still purchase imported fertilizers. Question: why? One of the reasons is that the proper quality of the Russian seed fund has not appeared, either in volume or in quality,” Yarovaya said.
She believes that interaction between the Ministry of Agriculture and leading scientific institutes has not yet been established.
“Biotechnology is the future of the whole world. This is what the competition is about. Issues of genetic engineering will ensure success in the development of agriculture and will be converted into the quality of life and well-being of citizens and the success of the economy,” Yarovaya said.
