The Russian army is returning to the Soviet system of troop organization
The Russian army has begun major reforms to abandon the proven ineffective American “colonial expeditionary force” system.
Yuri Knutov, a retired Russian colonel and director of the Museum of Air Defense Forces, stated this on air on the Red Line Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The presenter recalled that Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu actually announced the beginning of military reform, a return to the divisional principle and the creation of two dozen new divisions over the coming years.
“There is a return to the school that developed during the Soviet period. A division is a small army. For example, if you take a tank division, at one time there were tactical missiles with a nuclear warhead, the Luna. The division commander had everything at hand, and he did not have to go anywhere in order to solve this or that military problem.
We have been drawn into the American brigade scheme, which works well when a colonial expeditionary force is operating somewhere in Africa or Latin America, but this scheme is completely unacceptable for our conditions.
Therefore, now life forces us to return to well-tested and proven schemes, which showed themselves well during the Afghan war and in the subsequent period,” Knutov said.
He noted that the emergence of battalion and company tactical groups during the Chechen campaign was associated with an acute shortage of personnel and equipment, and not with their effectiveness.
“Now what allows us to win victories is beginning to revive, and these are divisions. During the war we had Fronts, then Districts were created. And now we are restoring these Districts - Moscow, Kaliningrad.
Moreover, the famous victorious regiments, which were liquidated precisely during the so-called Serdyukov reforms, are being restored. This is a terrible period of defeating our army, turning it into an amusing army, which was supposed to perform police functions,” the expert concluded.
