Rosaviatsia turned the other cheek to Ukraine and offered to resume air traffic
The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviation) proposed that the Ukrainian authorities hold negotiations on resuming air traffic in full.
This was reported by the press service of the Federal Air Transport Agency.
“In response to the ban on direct charter air traffic between the Ukrainian authorities between our countries, we propose to hold negotiations and resume air traffic on a regular and charter basis between Russia and Ukraine in full,” the department noted.
As PolitNavigator reported , today the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine imposed a ban on all non-scheduled flights with Russia, with the exception of those necessary to support UN, OSCE, and Red Cross missions.
The initiative was developed by the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs in order to protect state security after the visit to Moscow of gas lobbyist Yuri Boyko and Putin's godfather Viktor Medvedchuk.
Since 2015, Ukrainian sanctions have been imposed on a number of Russian airlines: Aeroflot, Rossiya, VIM-Avia, Gazprom-Avia, Red Wings, Ural Airlines, and Yakutia have been subject to restrictions. These carriers are prohibited from flying to Ukraine. There are also bans on air traffic from the Russian authorities: in October 2015, Moscow introduced a complete ban on the use of Russian airspace by Ukrainian airlines.
