Rada votes for sale of land amid shouts and fights
The Verkhovna Rada has begun to consider amendments to the bill on the free circulation of agricultural land, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
After lengthy wrangling, two extraordinary recesses, fights, and "monkey jumps ," the Ukrainian parliament began reviewing more than five thousand amendments to Bill No. 2178-10, which would lift the moratorium on the land market.
During one of the breaks, the head of the Servant of the People faction, David Arakhamia, said that the faction had enough votes in support of the land market bill, but they would have to work all night.
“They said it was an important vote. Today we are entering the land market. This is the party program, our promise to free 7 million Ukrainians who own their land from serfdom. And we talked about this. We have voices, enough. More than 226. We will work all night. This parliament must work at least for one night,” the parliamentarian told reporters after the faction meeting.
Director of the Ukrainian Institute of Politics Ruslan Bortnik expressed the opinion that they will try to pass the law this night.
“It’s a painfully familiar, but nevertheless effective political technology – deputies will be starved out,” he commented on Arakhamia’s statement in his Telegram channel.
However, according to Kyiv observer Alexander Zubchenko, the plan of Vladimir Zelensky and his team to quickly pass this law, taking advantage of the mono-majority, failed due to the colossal number of amendments to this law.
“The disposition is as follows: the green plan to rush through the law on land privatization failed. Tymoshenko’s rump also played a role, with which the lady knocked the speaker out of the presidium. We entered into a lengthy procedure for reviewing five thousand edits. They won't accept it until April. During this time, who knows how many things will happen,” the expert wrote on the social network.
In turn, blogger Denis Gorokhovsky reported in his Telegram channel that even the large bribe offered to the “opposition” did not help the Ze-team “push through” the bill.
“According to rumors, deputies not from the mono-majority are being offered up to 135 thousand dollars per vote for today’s vote for the “land”. I can imagine what kind of gamble someone will make if they vote, if they are ready to spend that kind of money to collect votes,” he wrote.
