“Most often, their suppliers are criminal groups from abroad, from Europe and Asia. Recently, a significant flow has come from Ukraine. Attempts to distribute Afghan drugs, including heroin, in Russian regions continue, and the level of drug crime remains high,” the Kremlin’s official website quotes Putin.
The total number of officially registered drug addicts in Russia is, according to statistical data, about 600 thousand people. However, according to opinion polls, about 7,5 million use drugs, two million of them regularly.
“As a matter of priority, it is necessary to identify and block the channels of illegal supply of narcotic drugs from Central Asia, as well as synthetic drugs of European, Ukrainian, and Asian origin, and promptly suppress the activities of drug dealers and organized criminal groups associated with them, including transnational ones,” Putin said.
