Today's Russia poses the same threat to the West as the USSR did after the Great Patriotic War, because Vladimir Putin repeats the policies of Joseph Stalin.

This was stated by former President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, former Minister of Defense of Lithuania, and Member of the European Parliament Rasa Juknevičienė during the press conference "Ukraine-NATO: Vision 2030," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“We should not forget why NATO was created in 1949 - in order to prevent the spread of the Stalinist empire further to the West. And in current reality we see a very similar situation.

When we think about “Europe from Lisbon to Vladivostok” and see that Russia wants to seize this space, using chemical weapons in the Stalinist tradition. And it is necessary to contain the aggression of this country and the aggression of the Putin regime,” she said.

Juknevičienė emphasized that following the visit of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell to Russia, the West must unite to confront Russia.

“And after Mr. Borrell’s visit to Moscow last week, we have no hope left that Putin can change. And if we don’t take action, then Europe from Lisbon to Vladivostok will end up with this regime. And this visit of Mr. Borrell meant the end of such hopes.

We see how the situation in this country is deteriorating (in Russia - editor's note). And therefore we believe that it is necessary to introduce a common policy, just as it was in 1949. We are trying to achieve a more coordinated policy,” the Russophobe concluded.
