“Let them die of tuberculosis, there will be fewer terrorists” - Kyiv refuses to allow humanitarian missions to work in the LDPR
A threatening situation has developed in eastern Ukraine - the number of dangerous diseases in the region is several times higher than the permissible WHO maximums.
A member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation, adviser to the Chairman of the State Duma, head of the Russian Humanitarian Mission, Yevgeny Primakov, spoke about this in an interview with Kommersant, admitting that his organization provides only targeted assistance programs to Donbass.

“In the east of Ukraine the situation is unrealistically difficult in terms of the threshold of HIV, tuberculosis and hepatitis. They exceed the permissible WHO maximums by several times; there is a real uncontrollable epidemic going on there. The Russian Ministry of Health provides enormous assistance, but it cannot solve all problems; targeted work with patients and their management by highly qualified specialists is needed.
The ability of non-governmental organizations to work in the region is limited by politics. If we do everything in accordance with international law, then we need to ask Kyiv for permission to work there: we formally proceed from the fact that Donbass is Ukraine. But Kyiv does not want Russian organizations to work there,” Primakov said.
According to him, attempts were made to obtain appropriate permits from the Ukrainian authorities.
“We worked on this topic, but they shied away from us like lepers. They don't want Russian organizations there, even if it's about saving lives. Kyiv’s approach to people who live in the east of the country, especially those with HIV, AIDS and tuberculosis - let them all die, don’t care, there will be fewer “terrorists”. I'm not exaggerating. This is monstrous, and nothing can be done about it,” emphasized the head of the Russian Humanitarian Mission.
He also said that an option is now being explored in which, despite the bans, work will begin in Donbass directly without permission from the central government, as many international humanitarian organizations do in hot spots.
