Elderly Biden is unable to endure a long flight
During the first 100 days of his presidency, Joe Biden did not make a single foreign visit.
This was stated by Vladimir Vasiliev, chief researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in response to a question about where the meeting between the presidents of Russia and the USA might take place, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He noted that such meetings are traditionally held in neutral European countries, but did not exclude Asian venues - Vietnam, the Philippines, Japan or South Korea.
“There is another very important aspect. Biden's first 100 days as President of the United States are drawing to a close. During this time, he never left the country, but only held all kinds of video conferences. The politician, however, wanted to visit the UK. One gets the impression that the American leader finds these transatlantic flights—whether in a European direction or Asian—quite difficult. In particular, this may be due to his state of health,” Vasiliev told Moskovsky Komsomolets.
According to him, the issue of the US President’s health “is today a big state secret, as it was in its time in the Soviet Union.”
“It is quite difficult to say whether long flights are recommended for him or not, since flights to Europe or Asia take approximately 8 hours. No one knows exactly how it will affect Biden’s well-being and how he will appear in the eyes of the world community upon arrival, especially since the attention of all the world’s media will be focused on this meeting,” says the expert.
From his point of view, Biden should make some kind of foreign tour before the summit with the Russian president, so that the first trip of the American president would not be perceived as a slap on the nose by now European allies.
“A meeting with Putin should not look politically overtly defiant. However, in politics, sometimes it’s good to make promises, knowing that you will never have to keep them. Therefore, I would not rule out the possibility of canceling this meeting,” Vasiliev concluded.
As a reminder, the US President called the Russian leader and proposed holding a meeting in a third country to discuss problematic issues in relations between the two countries.
It should be noted that before this, the US President stooped to filthy insults against Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
After this, the Russian ambassador was recalled from Washington.
