Changing the usual army greeting to the nationalist “Glory to Ukraine” will bring even greater discord into Ukrainian society, since the attitude towards it is ambiguous.

Human rights activist and political expert Vladimir Chemeris stated this on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“This is Poroshenko’s pre-election step. He will not do anything better in Ukraine, he will not even change the situation in the army, he will not even change the situation in the Joint Forces Operation zone. All this is in order to take over part of the electorate, because they have nothing else to hope for,” the political scientist believes.

He also added that such a decision would only worsen the internal situation in the country and create another split in society.

“If this was 27 years ago, it would have been accepted by society. Now this initiative is contributing to the split in Ukraine, because there really are completely different thoughts regarding this. I think that now this can be explained solely by the election campaign. There are no other reasons for this,” Chemeris noted.
