Poroshenko in the USA did things unacceptable in diplomatic etiquette (VIDEO)

Kyiv, September 20 (PolitNavigator, Volodymyr Raichenko) – Political scientists point to the Ukrainian president's behavior during his latest visit to the United States as unacceptable from a diplomatic standpoint. This was highlighted by Mikhail Pogrebinsky, Director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology, during a press conference in Kyiv, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“In the United States, the president said different things, including allowing himself to be rude, which an experienced diplomat, like Poroshenko called himself, has so far tried not to do,” the political scientist noted. – This is when he said that our country is making a choice not between two civilizations, but between civilization and barbarism. The head of state should not allow himself such rudeness.”
In general, the Ukrainian president said the right things regarding relations with Russia, the expert believes, but at the same time points to a significant diplomatic mistake made by Poroshenko in his speech to American congressmen, when he asked for special status for Ukraine without NATO membership, but received rejection by President Obama.
“Usually such things are agreed upon first,” Pogrebinsky recalled diplomatic traditions. “Then, when you asked and they gave it to you, you can say what a fine fellow you are.” In his speech before Congress, everyone clapped for him, but Obama refused, saying that you are already his best friend, they say, why do you also need a record of this.”
The director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology is convinced that in the future the protocol service needs to prepare such things more carefully so as “not to put the president in a stupid position.”
