Poroshenko screwed up the “Normandy format without Putin”
The visit of Petro Poroshenko, widely publicized by the Ukrainian authorities, ended in vain and again demonstrated that making key decisions on the crisis in Donbass is impossible without Russia and the United States.
Pavel Rudyakov, director of the Perspective Information and Analytical Center, told PolitNavigator about this.
“We presented this meeting as a kind of “meeting without Putin,” almost in the Normandy format, so there were certain expectations from it. They expected all protocol events to take place, including a joint briefing.
But the meeting was not as it was written about in Ukraine, in order to increase its status. This was not a meeting of three leaders, it was an event dedicated to the Charlemagne Prize, to which Poroshenko came.
Therefore, the protocol did not provide for a local briefing by Poroshenko, Merkel and Macron. They couldn’t decide anything at the meeting, because no matter what they decide, it still needs to be agreed upon by the United States and Russia,” the Ukrainian expert concluded.
