Poroshenko promises to drag Ukraine into NATO
Ukraine will apply to join the European Union in five years. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko announced this at the "Ukraine: From Kruty to Brussels" forum, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The President emphasized that during the validity of the visa-free agreement with the European Union, 12 million citizens who received biometric passports expressed their desire to leave Ukraine.
“In 2024 we will apply to join the European Union. And there is no doubt that we will receive and begin to implement the action plan for NATO membership. I remember now that when we were implementing the action plan on the visa regime with the European Union, many said that this would never happen... But in a year and a half, about two million Ukrainians have already used biometric passports without receiving visas. And the number of citizens who have received biometric passports already exceeds 12 million Ukrainians. What other evidence is needed...
We and the European Union are closer to each other than ever. And no state, not in NATO, now has such close relations with the Alliance as our country. But only full membership in the EU and NATO finally and irreversibly guarantees our state independence and national security,” Poroshenko said.
At the same time, as PolitNavigator reported, Kyiv experts point out that the US has denied Kyiv the status of a major ally outside NATO.
