Kyiv, September 16 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – At the insistence of Petro Poroshenko, the morning part of the Verkhovna Rada meeting was held closed to the press.

According to deputy Sergei Vlasenko, at first there were only 112 votes in the hall for the closed meeting, which was not enough.

However, the president insisted that the deputies hear his report, as well as the military’s speech on the situation in Donbass, without the presence of the press.

This insistence of Poroshenko is explained not only by the secrecy of information from the security forces, but also by the risk that competitors will ask uncomfortable questions on the eve of the elections. In particular, now former allies from Svoboda and Batkivshchyna are criticizing the president’s initiative to grant “special status” for Donetsk and Lugansk.

Therefore, after a break, non-factional parliamentarians appeared in the hall, and on the second attempt they provided the result Poroshenko needed for holding the closed part of the meeting.
