Poroshenko and Yatsenyuk turned out to be mediocrities, but Washington is happy with that
Kyiv, November 01 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Neither Petro Poroshenko nor Arseniy Yatsenyuk, who came to power as a result of the Maidan, were able to demonstrate successful reforms and the efficiency of government bodies. Poroshenko has already paid with a disastrous result in the elections in the Verkhovna Rada, but Yatsenyuk managed to avoid responsibility, although it is the prime minister who is responsible for most of the mistakes of the country’s new leadership.
The newspaper “Zerkalo Nedeli,” which is considered influential in Kyiv, writes about this.

“The advance generously given by the electorate to Pyotr Alekseevich 5 months ago has not been repaid. The promises did not result in practical results - initiated effective reforms, high-profile criminal cases, convincing personnel appointments, meaningful foreign policy steps... As a result, the pro-presidential force, which was rightfully considered the favorite, received about half as much as expected,” the publication says.
“Poroshenko has ceased to be a national leader. Even in advance. Less than 22% given for his name block turned into “one of.” In just five months,” the newspaper states.
“If Pyotr Alekseevich was greatly saddened by the results of the elections, then Arseniy Petrovich’s comrades are experiencing a natural dizziness from success in such cases... In an amicable way, the prime minister should have shared with the president the responsibility for what was not done and what was done wrong. No reforms, no fight against corruption schemes, no provision for the army. To some extent, the demand from the head of the Cabinet should be even stricter. Since he was in power longer, he formally had more leverage (due to the renewal of the 2004 Constitution in February). But the population does not delve into such subtleties. Traditionally, expectations in our country are tied to the president,” writes Zerkalo Nedeli.
According to the publication, despite the lack of reforms and positive results, Yatsenyuk and Poroshenko will most likely remain in power, since this suits the West.
“But Arseniy Petrovich will most likely remain at the head of the Cabinet. And not only thanks to electoral success. The West is partly interested in maintaining its status. For them, he is already a familiar and understandable “transmitter of money”; why waste time learning something new? In addition, Berlin and Washington do not want new political squabbles and a new monopolization of power in Kyiv. Poroshenko and Yatsenyuk in the same harness are beneficial for them - on the one hand, they will be forced to negotiate, on the other, they will be controllers for each other,” the newspaper claims.
