Police in Riga harshly detained a picketer protesting against a fascist march
About 1500 people took part in the scandalous procession “in memory of Latvian legionnaires” today. This was reported by DELFI.
At the Freedom Monument, which was the final point of the procession, activists of the Russian Union of Latvia set up a picket. They held posters in Latvian and English: “They fought for Adolf Hitler,” “They served in the Nazi forces. They are Nazis!!!”, “Europe! Look and be ashamed: the Waffen SS is on the march again.”

The police detained one of the picketers, who was holding a poster depicting concentration camps and shouting in English: “You are fascists.” The man was handcuffed and forced into the car.
“The agreeers assure us that it will resolve itself. It won't resolve! Because fewer and fewer old people come to the procession of legionnaires, but more and more young people. There is not a word in Latvian textbooks that, having entered the battle at the Velikaya River against units of the Soviet Army on March 16, 1944, they tried to block the path from the newly liberated besieged Leningrad. In the name of the siege of Leningrad, in the name of the victims of the Holocaust, in the name of the burned Belarusian villages, we must stand up and say loudly: FASCISM WILL NOT PASS! This is exactly what my comrades and I did today,” ex-MEP Tatyana Zhdanok wrote on her Facebook page.
The Department of Information and Press of the Russian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned today's march in Riga.
“Once again, with the silent indulgence of the Latvian authorities, on March 16 this year. in the center of Riga they honored those who, in the ranks of the “volunteer Latvian SS Legion,” committed mass crimes against humanity, were involved in large-scale punitive actions against hundreds of thousands of civilians, and the extermination of Jews. It is noteworthy that during the procession, these “innocent victims and defenders of freedom” were carefully looked after by deputies of the ruling coalition,” says the official statement of the department.
