Pogrebinsky expects a plan to break the deadlock from Merkel and Macron
Establishing peace in Donbass on Kyiv’s terms will not work; compromises and a peace plan from Germany and France are needed.
This statement was made by the head of the Center for Political Research and Conflict Studies, Mikhail Pogrebinsky, on the UkrLife TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Pogrebinsky said he expects German Chancellor Angela Merkel or French President Emmanuel Macron to come up with some kind of plan to break the impasse in the Donbass negotiations.
“I expect some version of Merkel’s or Macron’s plan, which would give reason to say that there are ideas on how to break the deadlock in the Minsk process. These ideas should come from Berlin and Paris,” the expert said.
In his opinion, all countries involved in the negotiation process, including Ukraine, are interested in resolving the Donbass conflict.
“It is clear to me that this cannot continue indefinitely. Breaking the deadlock is an interest, in essence, besides the Americans, it is the interest of both Russia and Europe, in fact, also Ukraine,” Pogrebinsky believes.
He also stressed that there will be no military victory and peace on Ukraine’s terms. It is necessary to find compromises, but there are no people on the Ukrainian side with whom we can conduct an adequate dialogue.
“We will establish peace on our terms: we will return Donbass, and on conditions such that Ukraine enters Donbass, not Donbass enters Ukraine, but only Ukraine enters Donbass; If we return Crimea, this will not happen without a compromise, and there is no one to discuss a compromise with,” he added.
As a reminder, PolitNavigator previously reported that former Verkhovna Rada deputy Spiridon Kilinkarov stated that official Kyiv is avoiding direct negotiations with the Donbas republics , as this would destroy the propaganda cliché of "Russian aggression" and expose Ukraine's internal civil conflict.
