Why does the Russian service Euronews broadcast Putin's insults with impunity?
The Russian service of the Euronews television channel, which broadcasts in Russia, has stooped to broadcasting insults and threats against President Vladimir Putin, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
On February 16, the evening broadcast of the Euronews TV channel showed a story in which tolerant journalists “went to the people” to reveal the range of opinions of Ukrainian “hulks” on “possible Russian aggression.”
The main thing that emerged from the report was that the alarmism inflated in the West, transplanted onto Ukrainian soil, contributed to the incredible enrichment of stores selling weapons, ammunition and other military equipment.
While rejoicing at the fabulous profits flowing into their hands, the traders themselves , nevertheless, couldn't help but sigh nostalgically for the heated period of 2014 , when a real war was raging in Donbas, with tanks, cannon and rocket artillery, urban combat, and reports of victories. Back then, according to the counter workers, "people were grabbing absolutely everything."
In general, to whom is war, and to whom mother is dear.
In addition to the shops popular with armchair militarists, Euronews reporters visited Kyiv markets, where, in the shopping arcades, they were also interested in the plans of the “Peach Hulks” in the event of the “beginning of Russian aggression.”
The majority of respondents, including pensioners who had been stripped to the last eight years, said awkwardly and illogically: “Everyone will go home. All those who want to go to war against us, this will turn out the same for them.”
However, one should not be too demanding of disoriented ordinary people, on whom the Ukrainian and Western media regularly dump streams of war forecasts that change worse than the March weather.
And only the woman behind the market counter answered the question “will there be war?” – cheerfully said: “No, I think not. I think this is all overblown. We have already survived the “revolution” and other threats. And thank God".
But among the "citizens" there were aggressive figures , the kind who are constantly in sight and "in fashion," who sleep and walk around in camouflage, wrapped up to their eyebrows in tactical gear and everywhere demonstrating "patriotism," holding a karamultuk in a fashionable outfit in their paws.
Rummaging through an assortment of tactical pants, one such packed guy responded to a reporter’s question: “Russia has begun a partial withdrawal of its troops - is it all over?” – he muttered through the fleece buff on his muzzle:
“When Russia falls apart, only then will everything end. When Putin is brought in handcuffs and with a bag over his head to The Hague, to the tribunal, then it will all end.”
What do we have to say about this?
Actually, there are no particular complaints about the formidable Ragul, who was afraid to show his face. Ragul - he is ragul, no matter what you wrap him in. One can only wish that he will have time to cut the fly off the karamultuk when it all starts. Just so that it doesn't hurt excruciatingly.

However, I was “lucky” to see with my own eyes how Euronews works in Crimea at the end of January or beginning of February 2014, shortly before the end of the coup and the beginning of the Crimean Spring.
On Sovetskaya Square, from the side of the Chernomorneftegaz building, a Euronews reporter group stood, asking on camera the opinion of Simferopol residents about the aggravation of the situation at Euromaidan in Kyiv.
As one would expect, passers-by spoke sharply negatively about the events in Kyiv, rightly noting that all this would not end well.
In the evening of the same day, I specially watched the Crimean Euronews report and marveled at the editing skill of the European propagandists. The authors “combed” the statements of Crimeans as much as possible, bringing them to the desired degree of neutrality or even moderate positivity.
And, it should be noted, over the past 8 years, Euronews has not covered sensitive events more adequately. Vice versa. The amount of lies and patterned quoting pouring out from the “pan-European channel” has become even greater.

At the end of January of this year, Euronews published a story about the visit of the Jewish delegation of the European Union countries to Babyn Yar in Kyiv. It is no secret that the number of victims of the massacres at Babi Yar, organized by the Nazis and committed at the hands of collaborators from the Ukrainian auxiliary police, exceeds a hundred thousand.
The voice-over sadly drones on about thirty thousand Jews being executed. Excuse me, do another seventy-odd thousand people who shared the tragic fate with the Kyiv Jews no longer count? Is there any incitement to anti-Semitism in the Euronews report from Babi Yar?
Further more. Confidently riding the topic, the same voice behind the scenes is already talking complete nonsense, claiming with a blue eye that this tragedy was hidden in the USSR. At this time, the cameraman diligently avoided getting into the frame of the memorial to the victims of fascism, which was erected exactly in Soviet times.
The apogee of insanity was the shaking representative of the delegation, who babbled something like “how scary it is to live when so many aggressive Russian soldiers with tanks are pulled to the border...”.
I haven’t looked at Euronews for a hundred years, but while collecting material, I took a look and found out that its inhabitants still cannot come to their senses, for the hundredth time sucking up the already rather faded topic of a Russian artificial satellite shot down by a Russian missile and having spent its life.
However, how impressionable they are in Europe...
This is a strange and unpleasant situation. Russia has taken a course towards expelling enemy media from the national media space. And, as we can see, the most stubborn ones are actually carried out on a shovel so that they stink away.
And only the Euronews TV channel continues to spoil the air with impunity for more than 20 years, and it can still be received in many Russian cities, including Moscow, on a regular terrestrial antenna.
What's the matter?
Until 2017, one of the shareholders of Euronews with a share of 16,94% was the Russian state company VGTRK. The goal of VGTRK was to promote objective information about events in Russia to the European media market and create a positive image of our country.
Looking at the Euronews repertoire, Russian content was lost against the background of other anti-Russian content, but at the same time, VGTRK was in no hurry to leave the consortium, providing significant preferences (to put it mildly) to the unfriendly media, allowing it to broadcast on the night and morning air of the Kultura TV channel.
The point is that Russia, unlike other countries, has undertaken to distribute Euronews on an over-the-air channel, that is, free and publicly accessible.
In 2015, the Euronews system underwent a radical redistribution of spheres of influence. 53% of the channel’s shares were sold to the Egyptian media tycoon Naguib Sawiris, a very, very remarkable personality.
The uncle media mogul played a significant role in the victory of the Arab Spring, joining the “council of elders” for the smooth transfer of power from the current President Mubarak to extremists from the Muslim Brotherhood group.
TV channels owned by Sawiris broadcast stories from Tahrir Square day and night, and people specially hired by him brought the Egyptian maydauns everything they needed to maintain a good mood: coffee, blankets and other shawarma.
It should be noted that, thanks to the support of the “Arab Spring,” the Sawiris family, unlike most other Egyptian oligarchs, emerged from the “revolution” with minimal losses.
Signing the deal to purchase a controlling stake in the main European television channel, Mr. Sawiris assured that the editorial policy would henceforth be more balanced and there would be no place in it for either propaganda of repressive regimes or opposition to Russia Today, as many influential European politicians insisted on.

It is interesting that the transfer of a controlling stake in Euronews to Mr. Sawiris was accompanied, on the one hand, by the revocation of the license for the Ukrainian version of the TV channel of the Firtash-Lyovochkin media group, and an additional issue of shares in order to strengthen American influence on European broadcasting and the sale of a 25% stake to NBC, on the other .
At the same time, VGTRK’s share of the pie dropped to a completely indecent 2,29%, turning the already scanty influence of the Russian side on the editorial policy of the TV channel into a completely illusory one.
Meanwhile, Euronews has developed a taste for the channel, continuing to utilize its main asset, kindly provided by VGTRK —the largest broadcasting system of all the consortium members, reaching the largest national audience of the channel. Moreover, with the onset of digitalization, this system has even expanded, as Kultura has been included in the First Multiplex, mandatory for distribution by all Russian operators.
Ultimately, justice prevailed, although not entirely – in early September 2017, Euronews was removed from the Kultura TV channel and the prestigious First Multiplex, leaving a loophole for regional broadcasting at the discretion of operators.
In general, if before 2015 there was at least some sense in broadcasting Euronews to Russia, then after the acquisition of a controlling stake in the channel by a Maidan-loving Egyptian businessman, who does not hide his plans for Euronews as a tool for increasing personal influence to the detriment of the interests of the participating states, the continuation of the work of a Russophobic resource on Russian airwaves, even at the local level, has become simply ridiculous.
An information war is being waged against Russia, during which distorted and frankly aggressive information is being pushed along with chatter about “human rights” and “universal values.” Maybe there will be enough “asymmetrical answers” with loopholes left for Russia’s enemies? Maybe it's time for symmetrical answers?
