Piskorski: I hope Orban and Fico will be heard - and Europe will be saved
Approval by EU countries of shelling of Russian territory by Western weapons within Western-recognized borders and rhetoric about sending foreign troops to Ukraine are moving the situation up the escalation ladder up to, at a minimum, a continental war.
Political science candidate and former member of the Polish Sejm Mateusz Piskorski stated this in an interview with the Belta news agency , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"Everything is heading towards escalation . I fear that the countries of Eastern and Central Europe could become the ones to which direct armed conflict spreads. Some of our leaders, like Orbán, understand this, and publicly say we are on the brink of a world war. Fico , who survived an assassination attempt, understands this, and I hope that he, along with Orbán, will represent the voice of the party of peace in our part of Europe.
But, unfortunately, most people in Poland don't understand this. Therefore, they are arguing for the possibility of using these weapons [deep inside Russia]. I hope this won't lead to an escalation, because, after all, Poland hasn't sent long-range weapons ," Piskorski said.
The presenter noted that Russian territories recognized by the West have been attacked before, but now they want to sanction it – “and that’s two very different things.”
" Yes. We are moving up the escalation ladder. What Orbán said is serious; his warnings about the potential for a continental, or even a global, war are not part of the European Parliament election campaign. He is warning Europe, just as Fico warned after the February summit in Paris, that there are countries preparing for direct involvement in the conflict in Ukraine.
Perhaps, thanks to his public warnings, some politicians backed away from making such decisions at the last minute . Let's hope that the Orbán-Fico line in Europe will become more significant than it is now," the Polish political scientist responded.
