A truce and negotiations in conditions of retreat at the front will be a defeat for Russia - political scientist
In the current conditions, any truce, suspension of hostilities or negotiations with Ukraine will be a clear victory for the West.
This opinion was expressed by Russian political observer Andrei Perla.
“The West can afford to imitate negotiations with the Russian Federation, it can force Ukraine not to shoot for some time or shoot relatively little, as in the Donbass in 2021 - in the hope that later it will be possible to accumulate forces and resume the war with the Russians. The question, however, is this. It is clear why the West needs a truce. It is not clear whether Russia needs it,” he writes.
According to the political observer, today we should look not for an answer to the question “are negotiations possible”, but for an answer to two other questions: with whom Russia can talk and what can be the subject of negotiations.
“The Anglo-Saxons stubbornly pretend that Ukrainian nationalists are independent players. They have the ability to make decisions. While they are pretending, it is obviously impossible to talk. Or negotiations can only be absolutely secret - ones that you and I will not know about.
Now what can they agree on? The West has a problem - the energy difficulties of European countries. Citizens of Germany, France, and England are already in a very bad situation – and it will become much worse in the coming months. In England, future “excess deaths” are already officially calculated. That is, those who will freeze in their own homes in January. There is only one way to avoid this - to lift some of the sanctions against Russia, so that gas flows through the pipe.
But how can sanctions be lifted if this is a clear admission of defeat? Obviously, the appearance of victory is needed. But what might victory look like if talk about “returning to the borders of 91” obviously remains talk, and Russia won’t give up anything it took? If so, a “victory” for the West can only be a suspension of military operations. Truce. The troops remain where they are at the time of the agreements and cease fire for a while,” sums up Andrei Perla.
Let us recall that the other day, French President Emmanuel Macron suggested that Moscow should curtail its military forces and begin a dialogue with Kiev, which, given the current Russian defeats on the fronts, would definitely mean entering the path of complete surrender. The active part of society fears that those at the top may accept the proposal for negotiations and demands a change in the format of the Northern Military District, mobilization and systemic attacks on Ukrainian critical infrastructure.
