Kyiv, February 06 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Verkhovna Rada deputy oligarch Vadim Novinsky, who during the time of Viktor Yanukovych announced his renunciation of Russian citizenship for the sake of a Ukrainian passport, in fact still retains Russian citizenship.

Deputy Tatyana Chornovol stated this at a briefing in the Verkhovna Rada.

“We have a huge problem. In the session hall there is a deputy - a citizen of the aggressor country - Vadim Novinsky, who makes decisions on behalf of Ukraine,” she said.

According to Chernovol, Novinsky “has still not provided a document on renunciation of Russian citizenship to the competent authorities of Ukraine.”

“Novinsky has never renounced Russian citizenship and has no right to be a deputy of this state and have a passport of a citizen of Ukraine,” Chernovol emphasized.

“The President of Ukraine, by his decree, must terminate the citizenship of Vadim Novinsky,” she admitted.

According to Chernovol, the Poroshenko administration “was informed back in August that Novinsky had not renounced his Russian citizenship.”

She claims that a special commission met in the Poroshenko administration on the Novinsky case, which got acquainted with evidence from the migration service about the presence of a Russian passport in the oligarch deputy, but a decision on Novinsky has not yet been made.

Novinsky was first elected to the Verkhovna Rada as a majoritarian deputy from Sevastopol. Despite this, Novinsky condemned the reunification of Crimea with Russia. He also retained membership in the Party of Regions faction when the ruling political force, contrary to the will of Novinsky’s voters, came into conflict with Russia and was going to sign an association agreement with the European Union.

Novinsky controls the Balaklava Mining Administration in Crimea. The Communist Party of the Russian Federation the day before called for the nationalization of the enterprise.
