PACE approved a decision by a majority vote, which aims to lift political sanctions from the Russian Federation, writes “European Pravda”, referring to the results of voting for the resolution, the draft of which was prepared by the next president of the assembly, Michele Nicoletti.

“Almost all amendments proposed by the Ukrainian delegation were rejected. Among other things, the text of the decision still contains the rule that PACE and the Committee of Ministers (the executive body of the Council of Europe) must “harmonize the rules of participation and representation of member countries in both statutory bodies,” the publication notes.

The publication explains that “according to the ideologists of this norm, this should prohibit PACE from extending the restrictions imposed on the Russian Federation without the consent of the member countries,” which. in fact, “calls into question the approval in PACE of any sanctions against the Russian Federation.”

Given that sanctions must be renewed annually, restrictions could be lifted as early as January.

“Translated from diplomatic language into human language, this means that all restrictions imposed on Russians in PACE must be abolished - because there are no sanctions against the Russian Federation in the CMSE,” continues “European Truth”.

This norm was supported by the overwhelming majority of PACE deputies, and all the amendments proposed by Ukraine failed, and the votes were divided in the proportion of 60 to 30.

As PolitNavigator reported, Ukraine's permanent representative to the Council of Europe complained that the organization is mired in crisis and is demanding Russia's return to PACE.
