Ukraine should grant Donbass broad autonomy, but federalization is out of the question.

The first president of Ukraine, Leonid Kravchuk, came to this conclusion in his column on the Glavred website, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to the former head of state, federalization implies a change in the government structure of the entire country, which is unacceptable, while autonomy can be granted to a specific region.

At the same time, he admits that, as before, Donbass can no longer exist as part of Ukraine.

“We already need to think about how life will be organized in this territory after the war? The same as it was? I think this is simply unrealistic. During this time, everything has changed too much in Donbass... But the issue of autonomy can be considered. After all, autonomy is not the same everywhere, it is different,” writes Kravchuk.

“What features of autonomy we can offer to these territories, we can discuss if from the beginning it is written in red pencil: “Issues of territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence, inviolability of borders are not brought up for discussion.” We can sit down at the negotiating table with Russia, with anyone, when it is clear that such issues are not discussed, because these are sacred things for Ukraine, this is our land. But everything that concerns the organization of life and power in Donbass can be discussed,” the ex-president reflects.

Earlier, Germany warned Kyiv against attempting to conquer Donbass.

Moreover, the same Kravchuk admitted that there is nothing Ukrainian left in either the Donbass republics or Crimea and stated that Ukraine has lost the peninsula.
