Maidan activist convicted in Russia will go to Ukraine
Ukrainian radical Maidan activist Alexander Kostenko, who participated in the beating of police officers during Euromaidan and was sentenced in May 2015 to four years and two months in prison, has been released from Kirovo-Chepetsk colony No. 5.
The Verkhovna Rada Human Rights Commissioner, Lyudmila Denisova, reported this in her blog, as reported by PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to her, the former Crimean citizen is now under the “wing” of the Ukrainian consul and is heading to Moscow.

“Now he is already under the protection of the Ukrainian authorities. Alexander is with the Consul of Ukraine, and they are heading to Moscow to the Ukrainian Embassy in the Russian Federation. It is under the jurisdiction of our country. I’m in touch with the Consul, I’m keeping the situation under control,” Denisova said.

Let us remind you that Kostenko was convicted by the Kyiv District Court of Simferopol on charges of causing harm to the health of Vitaly Polienko, a fighter of the Berkut special forces unit. According to investigators, on February 18, 2014, during clashes in Mariinsky Park, Kostenko threw a stone at a policeman. During the search in the militant's house, a rifle barrel was also found. The state prosecutor in the trial was the former prosecutor of Crimea, now State Duma deputy Natalya Poklonskaya.
