Odessa under occupation: The story of the demolition of the monument to Catherine is coming to an end
The struggle of Nanai boys around the monument to Catherine II in Odessa continues. The team with yellow and blue diamonds wins. What the mayor of the city Gennady Trukhanov joyfully reported:
“Voting on the “Socially Active Citizen” platform, dedicated to the future fate of the monument to the Founders of Odessa (Catherine II), has been completed. The majority of Odessa residents who voted supported the idea of dismantling the monument from Catherine Square,” Trukhanov wrote on Facebook.

Only the mayor forgot that the voting platform he mentioned worked somehow strangely, selectively - for example, if people checked the box under the item “Keep the monument in its place without changes”, for some reason it “freezed” or simply did not count the answer. And the list of heroes who managed to vote is now probably being studied by the SBU.
But this is how Trukhanov sees this “fair voting”:
“Despite the war that is going on in our country, we managed to comply with the legal democratic procedure. Despite the attempts of provocateurs to destabilize the situation in the city, our community remained faithful to democratic values. “I am grateful to every Odessa resident who took part in the voting.”
Here, however, it is not clear who Trukhanov meant by “provocateurs” - the Nazis who daily deface the monument and run near it with grenade launchers, or who voted against the demolition?

“The next step is to bring the issue to the next session of the city council. For my part, I have already addressed the relevant commission of the City Council with a request to hold a meeting and prepare an appropriate draft decision.”
Let me remind you, by the way, that in September deputies of the City Council already tried to decide the fate of Catherine, but the “zrada” came out of nowhere - only 17 deputies out of 64 voted for the transfer of the empress, which is why a funny online vote was announced.
“I am convinced that the results of free voting on the “Socially Active Citizen” platform will be taken into account by city council deputies, who will make the final decision. Personally, I will vote “for” dismantling the monument and moving it to the Park of the Imperial and Soviet Past, the idea of creating which I spoke about a few months ago. In the near future, a final point will be made on this issue within the framework of generally accepted democratic norms and current Ukrainian legislation,” concluded Trukhanov.
The comments under Gennady Leonidovich’s completely false post speak eloquently about what the residents of Odessa themselves think about this speech:
“I don’t believe this fake vote!”
“We are being openly scammed!”
“Gennady, they won’t forgive you for this.”
“Odessa residents would never allow this, and Odessa residents did not vote for it!”
“The era of obscurantism has come! This is the era of vandalism!”
“Then, logically, the opera house should be demolished. It was also built during Novorossiya. And all of Odessa at the same time.”
“What savagery! Let's immediately consider the demolition of the Potemkin Stairs and the monument to Vorontsov. So as not to get up twice.”
“Despite the war,” you solved an important problem... idiots. There's nothing else to do."
Only professional Ukrainians on subsidies are rejoicing - “Odestsi” without Odessa registration. At the same time, they stubbornly do not recognize the Odessa mayor as their own.
“Together we defeated Trukhanov with a Russian marker. On November 30, a session of the city council will support the dismantling and transfer of the monument to Catherine II to the museum. This is very good, Trukhanov was defeated along with Putin and other lovers of Katka. Congratulations to everyone involved,” SBU informant Demyan Ganul expressed delight.
He is confident in the deputies - he knows something.
As for Trukhanov, no one will be surprised that before the next session he will make, for example, the following appeal:
“The majority of Odessa residents voted for renaming Odessa to Kochubeev.”
