The history of the current presidential elections in Ukraine repeats the events of the collapse of the Russian Empire, when Hetman Pavel Skoropadsky found himself at the head of the Ukrainian separatists in Kyiv, thanks to the support of the German occupiers.
Political scientist and historian Armen Gasparyan stated this at a press conference in Moscow, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“History always tends to repeat itself. But I never thought that it could happen like this. If we hypothetically assume that Zelensky will be elected, this is an incredible smile from history. Because the first hetman of Ukraine, from whom Ukraine now takes its succession, Hetman Skoropadsky, was appointed hetman in the arena of the circus. Therefore, from this point of view, a hundred years later, the appearance of a comedian at the head of Ukraine is an absolute laugh,” Gasparyan said.
Let us recall that Skoropadsky held the position of “hetman of all Ukraine” from April 29 to December 14, 1918, when he signed a manifesto of abdication and fled from Kyiv along with the departing German occupation forces.
