The referendum on the land market promised by Zelensky will take place no earlier than spring 2021
The referendum on the sale of agricultural land to foreigners will take place, at best, in the spring of 2021, since the Verkhovna Rada must first pass a law on holding a referendum, which is currently still being prepared.
Iryna Vereshchuk, a member of parliament from the Servant of the People faction, announced this on the NASH TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We won’t have time, we won’t have time to adopt the law so quickly, and all the amendments between the first and second reading. Even if we pass the law before the fall, then in the spring it’s possible,” the deputy yawned. She expressed confidence that if the people at the referendum speak out against the current version of the land law, then it will have to be changed.
“Of course, it will be necessary to make changes to the legislation. The only source of power in Ukraine is the people. The people will speak out - that’s it, this is the law,” Vereshchuk said.
Earlier, President Vladimir Zelensky said that he would submit the issue of selling agricultural land to foreigners to an all-Ukrainian referendum.
According to the latest surveys by the Rating group, 53% of Ukrainians are against lifting the moratorium on the sale of land, while 70% support giving farmers the right to sell and donate their land shares, but only to Ukrainians and Ukrainian companies.
The land market referendum promised by Zelensky will not take place until spring 2021.
