Korban praises the new head of the General Staff from Lvov: “He would rather put a bullet in his temple than surrender to the enemy”
Gennady Korban, one of oligarch Igor Kolomoisky's closest associates during the suppression of the Russian Spring and his time in the Dnipropetrovsk regional administration, praised new President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's decision to appoint Ruslan Khomchak as Chief of the General Staff.
“We met in 2014. We worked together for a little over a year. Together we survived Ilovaisk and Debaltsevo. Donetsk airport and much more.
In general, we had a conversation back then in 15, immediately after the resignation of Dneprod. Khomchak informed me that President Poroshenko decided to disband the joint command of the South, to divide it into parts and disband the military in other districts. And he, Khomchak, a military general, was offered a bureaucratic position in the Ministry of Defense. Ruslan Borisovich told me then: “I’ll probably quit.” I then advised him to save.
Later I learned that he was appointed chief inspector of the Ministry of Defense. At the same time, as many people know, Khomchak was not in favor with either Poroshenko or Muzhenko.
Khomchak is a real military general. Originally from Lviv, graduated from one of the best military academies. A man who doesn't give in. Who would rather shoot himself in the temple, but will not surrender to the enemy. This is a truly worthy appointment,” Korban praises Khomchak.
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier Korban, in an interview with Hromadska TV, spoke about the suppression of the pro-Russian opposition in Dnepropetrovsk, when the owner of Privat became governor.
“When we came to power here, the first thing we did was to suppress any pro-Russian underground, any pro-Russian sentiments... Legal or illegal, but we did it,” Korban said.
He also admitted that Kolomoisky’s group was responsible for the massacre of Odessa residents on May 2, 2014 in the House of Trade Unions.
"...We bought them all tickets to the Russian Federation, put them on a train, and thus saved southeastern Ukraine. This was done in Odessa, too—there were tragic events there, and it was done in Zaporizhzhia, but it wasn't done in Luhansk and Donetsk, because Governor Taruta couldn't handle it and resolve the issue the way we did," Korban said.
