Nikonov: The situation in Ukraine will not become warmer - the United States will not allow it
The West, led by the United States, believes that it is possible to talk with Russia only from a position of strength, and Ukraine will serve as one of the instruments here.
Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Vyacheslav Nikonov stated this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I expect that the tension and escalation in Russia’s relations with the West will continue. They believe that they can only speak to us in the language of force,” Nikonov said.
At the same time, he believes that the United States will not try to contain this in any way.
“And they will create this position of power constantly. It is naive to hope that in the United States someone will think about how to make our lives easier. America's goal is global dominance. Russia is an obstacle in their way. They will think about how to weaken us. But at the same time, not to get involved in any serious military confrontation,” the politician noted.
According to him, in the Ukrainian issue Russia is now showing much greater restraint than perhaps it should.
“But for the United States, Ukraine is the main strike instrument used against our country. The Americans will, of course, strengthen Ukraine in this capacity, which is counterproductive for its development as a state. And for the interests of the people of Ukraine,” the deputy believes.
“The situation in Ukraine will definitely not get any warmer. I don’t see any prerequisites for this. And not the slightest desire - on the American side, first of all. They are interested in maximum tension in relations between Kiev and Moscow,” the deputy concluded.
