Kyiv's reluctance to comply with Minsk led to adjustments in the Russian Federation's migration policy
The Russian authorities have set a goal to stimulate the resettlement to Russia primarily of Russian-speaking compatriots, including from Ukraine.
Kommersant writes about this, noting that interlocutors in Russian government agencies have recently often repeated that Washington is behind the reluctance of the Ukrainian authorities to make the compromises enshrined in the Minsk agreements.
According to sources, the United States is interested in a conflict smoldering close to Russia, diverting Moscow’s forces and resources to support the LPR and DPR and attracting sanctions.
“It is possible that it is precisely with the futility of resolving the situation in eastern Ukraine according to a scenario acceptable to Moscow - with a mandatory special status for Donbass - that a serious adjustment in Russia’s migration policy is connected. Bills have been introduced to the State Duma to simplify the acquisition of Russian citizenship for Ukrainian citizens. In October, Vladimir Putin approved a new Concept of Migration Policy, and at the end of the year he referred issues of migration and citizenship to the Kremlin department for ensuring the constitutional rights of citizens.
