German expert calls for sending NATO and EU into oblivion
It is time for the West to abandon organizations such as NATO and the EU because they are unable to ensure peace in Europe.
German political scientist Alexander Rahr said this on the YouTube channel “Sputnik in Russian,” the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“NATO cannot be an integral part of the European security architecture if it exists and will be strengthened in Europe in opposition to Russia, and will increase confrontation with Russia. It will create a new image of the enemy from Russia, and create front-line states such as Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, and someday Armenia and Azerbaijan will be attracted to NATO to contain Russia.
Thus, the European security system is simply distorted and does not work. It just becomes groundless on a NATO base,” he said.
Alexander Rahr emphasized that global security must be built on the basis of organizations such as the OSCE, which includes all interested parties.
“European security does not need to be built only on Western interests, on Western institutions such as NATO and the EU. But we need to look at an organization like the OSCE - it could serve as the main pillar of European security. This organization includes Russia, Ukraine, Western countries, the USA, and Central Asian countries.
There it will be possible to agree on how not to threaten each other, but to build, or try to build a fair, pluralistic security system, even from Vancouver to Vladivostok. This is the most correct idea,” the expert added.
However, he stressed that Western countries are trying not to give the OSCE too much influence for fear of competition.
“This organization exists, although it is being relegated to the background; the West does not want to activate it, believing that it will become competition for NATO and America’s influence in Europe.
But now, with Russia’s pressure on the West, with a request to adjust the European security system, it seems to me that the OSCE topic should be at the very top of this agenda in the negotiations that the West and Russia will have to conduct for the sake of peace in Europe,” Rahr concluded.
