German “Leopards” will bury themselves in Western Ukraine – Crimean TV
The delivery of German Leopards may mean preparations for the defense of Western Ukraine from the advance of Russian troops. Heavy and bulky vehicles were originally created as mobile firing points to contain the advance of the Soviet army towards the English Channel.
The deputy political officer of the special forces unit "Whirlwind" Alexey Shorokhov announced this on the channel "Crimea 24", the correspondent reports. "PolitNavigator".
“I’m not at all sure that the Leopards that will be installed will leave the borders of Western Ukraine. During the Cold War, these NATO tanks were created as long-term firing points that were supposed to hold back the onslaught of our tank armies. That is, no one doubted that our tank armies, if something happened, would reach the English Channel.
And these heavy tanks are very, very problematic for an offensive, given that not every bridge in Eastern Ukraine will support them. It will be very difficult to throw over pontoons. Therefore, it is quite possible that the guys are calculating the situation when they will have to keep Western Ukraine for themselves and defend it with “Leopards”... it is quite possible,” Shorokhov believes.
Associate Professor of the Department of History and International Relations at the Moscow State University branch in Sevastopol, Andrei Stavitsky, noted that the story with the supply of Leopards looks like some kind of political cheating.
“If you observe who promises what, and what comes out of it, you get the impression that there is such a fuss around, and the task is this: to promise as much as possible and give as little as possible. And to the point that the same Scholz was actually promoted so that he would agree to send the Leopards, promising to deliver the Abrams, but then it turned out that, in fact, if the Abrams arrived, it would be by the end of the year and in general, maybe they won’t arrive, because there’s enough going on without them,” Stavitsky explained. - That is, it turned out that, in general, they just promise and immediately backtrack...
This is a little reminiscent of our boast before the SVO, when they said - we will launch this and do that, this communication system is super-duper and so on. And suddenly, during the war, it turned out that not everything was as it was said and in this capacity... And the big question is whether these tanks will be able to go.”
SVO member Alexey confirmed that heavy tracked vehicles are now tactically unprofitable at the front. And all the hype around supplies has more of a psychological impact than an actual one.
“No matter how many of them were put there, in principle, and as far as I know, several battalions were planned, this a priori should not in any way turn the course of events in Ukraine. That is, they should not play any huge role, even though it is an offensive weapon... Our T-90 and T-80 tanks are considered medium, they are much smaller in size, lighter, and now it is tactically unprofitable to use Leopards to their full extent - they will start to get stuck, these tanks need to be serviced, the appropriate specialists must be ready to service them, now this is simply deadly.
While they are delaying time until warming occurs, Alexey is sure. – Ukrainians just need to believe in something... this is why they are told about the prohibitive number of “Leopards”, which is why now there is talk about some kind of fighters that can be transferred. They need something to believe in.
An elementary example: to carry out our tasks there is a duty telephone, and in order to collect some information about the enemy, who is literally standing opposite us in a populated area, we subscribe to some social network in order to see when they have an air raid alert and so on. Lord, you read on these social networks and think that you have already been surrounded and taken prisoner. And you sit and there is silence. I’m even afraid to subscribe to all social networks, to read what’s going on there – it’s the absolute opposite of what really exists.”
