Russian TV presenter Vladimir Solovet argued with Senator Alexei Pushkov on his talk show, recalling how in 2014 representatives of the political elite of the Russian Federation, speaking about Petro Poroshenko, expressed the same hopes as they do now regarding Vladimir Zelensky.
“I saw Poroshenko at all international venues - in Munich, and in Paris, and in a number of other places - he sold hatred of Russia everywhere. I believe that in this situation, Poroshenko’s victory was absolutely unnecessary for us. This would be a continuation of everything negative that we had in relations with Ukraine.
Now they will tell me how you are sure that Zelensky [is not like that] - I’m not sure, I think that Zelensky will basically continue the course of rapprochement with NATO, with the EU. But, nevertheless, there will be changes, there will be other people, other figures, there will be other certain possibilities.
What are the possibilities: I don’t want a war between Russia and Ukraine, Poroshenko was leading the matter towards war. I hope that Zelensky will take into account the lessons of Poroshenko, that he was failed by the Ukrainian people, and will not agree to such super-hostility towards Russia,” Pushkov said.
“I remember 2014. “Turchinov is an enemy, Turchinov is bad, Turchinov is a bloody pastor, now Petya will come - everyone knows him. Petya is a normal guy, everyone talked to him, well, he’ll say ritual words now, but we’ll come to an agreement with him.” Do we want to be deceived again?” – the presenter asked rhetorically.
“Until we have our own agenda for Ukraine, until we have our own agenda for Donbass, until we understand what we want. Yes, we have a common history, but why are we flirting with them? They should ask us, and we are trying to dance around them,” added Vladimir Solovyov.
