Former head of the SBU Valentin Nalyvaichenko boasted about how he fought the Russians in Crimea. He spoke about this on the NewsOne TV channel.

According to him, when he was chairman of the SBU, he expelled Russian politicians from the republic and banned pro-Russian organizations.
“I then fought against Zatulin, Luzhkov, the FSB of Russia. He forbade me, didn’t let me in, and then the FSB expelled me from Crimea. This was until the end of 2009. Real risks to national security and the loss of Crimea have always existed during the independence of Ukraine, all 25 years. Russia has always said: “We do not recognize that Crimea is Ukrainian.” Russia has always said: “Crimea is ours.” Luzhkov also tried to carry out these actions, anti-NATO protests and so on. It was always necessary to fight so that, for example, such an organization as “Sevastopol-Crimea-Russia” was banned. I gave up my position when “Sevastopol-Crimea-Russia” was banned, I kicked out the FSB, Zatulin and anti-Ukrainian rallies were not there,” Nalyvaichenko said.
At the same time, Nalyvaichenko identified the former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and his party as the culprit for the “surrender” of Crimea: “We must remember who exactly carried out this scenario and extended the stay of 24 thousand Russian military personnel along with their warships in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Let me remind you that this happened in 2010 after Yanukovych was elected president and the Party of Regions came to power.”
