Finally: the palace of Russian emperors in Livadia is awaiting global reconstruction
The former southern residence of the Russian emperors, the Livadia Palace, along with its adjacent park, which has been in a rather shabby state since the Ukrainian era, will undergo a comprehensive renovation. The project has been approved by the Main State Expertise, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The reconstruction of the building of the Livadia Palace and Park was announced by the previous Minister of Culture of Crimea, Arina Novoselskaya (currently under arrest on suspicion of financial fraud during the construction of a puppet theater in Simferopol).
“Current plans in the very near future include a complete restoration of the Livadia Palace: the retinue building and the building of Baron Fredericks. That is, everything that is in the Livadia Palace, and the reconstruction of the park. This is a huge territory, the park needs to be improved, it needs to be made beautiful and accessible,” Novoselskaya urged in April last year.
The ex-minister did not disclose the details of the reconstruction, but thanks to the Glavgosexpertiza they became known. In addition to the White Palace, the Fredriks Palace and the Suite Corps, which were included in the palace complex under Russian jurisdiction, are also being repaired and restored. Previously, they were buildings of the Livadia sanatorium, which was bought by Russian businessman Konstantin Malofeev in 2017 for half a billion rubles. Along with the modern buildings, several historical buildings became the property of the businessman, including a former laundry and a suite house.
The sanatorium is not operating, but will soon be adjacent to a large construction site. In the imperial palace, it is necessary to restore the base and surfaces of walls and facades made of natural stone, as well as decorative elements - sandstones, platbands, cornices, columns, half-columns.
It is planned to repair and restore the load-bearing structures of the balconies of the southern facade - the one that in 2010 threatened to move away from the main building due to a landslide caused by large-scale construction above the palace. The project also included the reconstruction of the terraces of the eastern façade.
In the Fredriks Palace, partitions erected during the operation of the sanatorium will be removed, walls, ceilings, stairs will be restored, and the historical flooring will be restored.

In the three-story building of the Suite (pages) building, the roof, drainpipes and gutters, and dormer windows are subject to replacement. Restoration of chimneys and chimneys is planned. Inside the building, the masonry of the load-bearing walls will be rebuilt, and the historical openings and flooring will be returned to their place.
After the restoration, which will take 3 years, hotels will open in the buildings of the Suite Corps and the Fredericks Palace.
By this time, it is planned to complete the complete reconstruction of Livadia Park. The work will be carried out on an area of more than 30 hectares, where paths, paths, retaining walls and landslide protection structures will have to be restored.
The amount of government investment in the palace and park complex is not specified. In 2010, 23 million hryvnia, or 83 million rubles at the exchange rate, were required for landslide prevention work in the Livadia Palace alone. Due to active construction higher up the slope, the sliding soil disrupted the drainage system on the territory of the palace and park, the root system of trees, and paths. One of the gazebos of the Italian architect Manighetti ended up in a hole, and the south-eastern part of the palace was actually separated. For global restoration, which the palace had not undergone in its entire 110-year history, then 30 million hryvnia, or 90 million rubles, were required.
For several years, Livadia Park has been restoring the rose garden that adorned the palace glades and the pergolas leading down to the sea. Currently, 8 thousand rose bushes have been planted.
