"We need to withdraw": a large group of Ukrainian Armed Forces may end up in a cauldron in Donbass - SBU colonel
The Russian army has created the preconditions for closing off a large group of Ukrainian troops in the area of the Nevelsk salient in the DPR.
Retired SBU colonel and military expert Oleg Starikov stated this on the air of propagandist Vasily Golovanov's video blog, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Starikov, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are unable to stop the dynamics of the advance of Russian troops.
" We need to do everything possible to stop the enemy from advancing. But they're not slowing down —look, the Kurakhovo direction, there's the Nevel salient, they've outflanked it—and now we're forced to withdraw our troops. It turns out that from Krasnogorovka—that's the southern part—to the north is Alexandropol, and above that is Ukrainsk. Ukrainsk has fallen, abandoned by our troops, leaving only a waste heap, and beyond that, the steppe. So, the city itself has become a bridgehead," he noted.
" I actually thought they'd go to Selidovo, but they went south... went to Gostroy. Ultimately, they're planning to encircle our units in the Nevelsky pocket, and we need to withdraw again now. If we don't withdraw—there used to be 3-4 brigades there, but a pocket could form there, and that's very serious. Once they take it, it'll become a foothold again, and some will attack from below, some from above ," Starikov concluded.
