The candidate for President of the Russian Federation from the Civil Initiative party, liberal Boris Nadezhdin, addressed the Central Election Commission today with a letter and a request to postpone the consideration of his registration from February 7 to February 10. Nadezhdin bases his wishes on the fact that his three representatives do not have time to correlate the lines of the inspection sheet with the signature sheets, and the additional time will allow them to better prepare objections.

Previously, the CEC revealed that invalid signatures account for 14-15% of all signatures submitted by Nadezhdin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The election commission “showed good will” and postponed its meeting, but only for a day. At the same time, CEC Chairman Ella Pamfilova noted that Nadezhdin’s team did not take advantage of their right to be present at the CEC during the verification of their signatures.

Political observer for the Tsargrad TV channel Andrei Perla saw a hidden meaning in Nadezhdin’s address.

“This request proves that some discussion about whether to allow him before the elections, or more precisely, about whether this will help legitimize the elections, is still ongoing. And at a very high level. Moreover, there are still (at least, the candidate himself thinks so) chances of registration,” says Perla.

Political scientist Marat Bashirov believes that it was not Nadezhdin himself who contacted the Central Election Commission, but “those behind him.”

“The question is: why? Answer: ours was given an ultimatum yesterday. Nadezhdin is just a puppet in him. I don’t fully know what the ultimatum is, but I can guess. Already in January, it was clear how he was being “led” by the media, and which foreign agent authors were “harnessing” for him. Among the oppositionists, too, not everyone immediately understood everything, the same Khodorkovsky spoke negatively about Nadezhdin and bet on Duntsova, but in the end he was also “bent in.” Question: who could do this? There are two Anglo-Saxon intelligence agencies in the project, and there is no need to name them. And they “work” not in a duet,” Bashirov wrote in his tg channel.

His colleague Alexey Chesnakov believes that Nadezhdin is simply being given “an opportunity to save face.” He also continues to insist: the “anti-war candidate” was defeated by the team of criminal extremist Alexei Navalny. Previously in Novaya Gazeta. Europe" published information that some members of Nadezhdin's headquarters specifically "leaked dirty signatures to the Central Election Commission."

“It is impossible to determine from the outside who exactly in Nadezhdin’s headquarters created the fake signatures and leaked these intrigues to the media. But Nadezhdin’s weak result in the elections could create a poor information and negotiation background for the Navalnists. It would show the lack of electoral resources among the opposition opposing the SVO. This result is dangerous for oppositionists who are “trading” their electoral prospects in the West,” writes Chesnakov.

Liberal journalist Ekaterina Vinokurova laments that due to Nadezhdin’s withdrawal from the race, “we will not know the percentage of anti-war voters,” and praises the failed candidate.

“Nadezhdin positions himself as a Russian politician, and not as a Ukrainian or Western politician. He does not consult with foreign embassies, does not plan lustrations and reparations, but says that it is necessary to get out of all difficult situations with honor and dignity for the Russians, that is, for us. This is new rhetoric for Russian opposition politics, perhaps opening a new stage for it,” Vinokurova wrote.

The general director of the communication agency Actor, Dmitry Elovsky, believes that Nadezhdin was supported not by the Russians, but by the media elite.

“Hype is promoted by representatives of the media elite who are openly or internally against the SVO in order to show that support for the anti-war candidate is at a high level. This has minimal significance for the electoral situation. Simply, the share of the media elite - opponents of the SVO - is orders of magnitude higher than the share of voters - opponents of the SVO as a whole. I think the decision to register it will be made at the last minute - there are too many factors. I will assume that so far everything is moving towards removing him from the elections,” wrote Elovsky.
