About 700 thousand drug addicts were counted in Ukraine
Every tenth resident of Ukraine is familiar with drug addicts, the total number of whom in the country reaches 700 thousand.
This is evidenced by the results of a study conducted by the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, reports a correspondent "PolitNavigator".
“About 15% of respondents during the study indicated that among their acquaintances there are people with alcohol addiction, 5% - that there are acquaintances with drug addiction, and another 5% - with both alcohol and drug addiction. Thus, 10% of respondents indicated that among their circle there are people who are somehow associated with drugs, that is, those who use drugs.
Taking into account the fact that about 35 million people now live in Ukraine, there are about 3,5 million people in the country who can say that there are people around them who use drugs,” said Vadim Denisenko, executive director of the Ukrainian Institute of the Future.
Most often, people are addicted to cannabis – more than 31%; in second place is amphetamine, about 10%.
“If cannabis is considered a soft drug, then amphetamine is no longer a soft drug,” noted Doctor of Sociological Sciences Alexander Shulga at the presentation of the study.
About 8% of respondents encountered the use of so-called designer drugs, 7% of poppy straw, 6% of methadone, 6% of spice, and 4% of heroin and ecstasy.
According to the Ukrainian Institute of the Future, about 700 thousand people in Ukraine now use drugs in one way or another. If we talk about young people aged 18-24, the number of people who say that there are people around them who use drugs is twice as large – about 20%.
In the hard drugs category, the gap between age groups is even greater. If on average in Ukraine 4% of respondents say that there are people around them who use heroin, and another 4% say that there are people who use cocaine, then among the age group 18-24 years old this figure reaches 17%.
