In Ukraine they want to imprison judges who give bribes less than a year in prison
Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko said that he wants to increase the severity of punishment for corrupt officials, and also proposes to punish judges loyal to bribe-takers, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

He stated this in an interview with the Kyiv publication LB.ua.
He noted that 9,5 thousand people were detained on the spot while receiving a bribe. In addition, last year a record number of sentences in corruption cases was registered - 1692. However, mostly corrupt officials received suspended sentences or a fine.
“I want to increase the severity of the punishment. It turns out that despite all the fight against corruption, no one wants to pay attention to the fact that Article 368 (bribe) has one icon and provides for a fine. And in the courts it somehow happens by chance that the majority are convicted under this article,” Lutsenko noted.
He gave an example when a man in Lviv tried to bribe a military prosecutor with 40 thousand dollars, and received a fine of 8,5 thousand hryvnia.
Therefore, the Prosecutor General decided to propose his own approach to resolve the situation.
“I appeal to parliament with changes to the law - there will be no less than a year in prison for corruption charges. The judge who gives less will receive five himself. I propose such a simple and understandable approach for everyone,” said the head of the Prosecutor General’s Office.
