At the Munich Conference, Ukraine was offered 12 steps to end the war
At the Munich Security Conference, the first statement was dedicated to Ukraine. During the event, 12 steps were proposed that would supposedly help resolve the conflict in Donbass.
This was reported on the official website of the conference, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The conflict in and around Ukraine is a tragedy for all those affected by violence. This flashpoint resulted from a catastrophic miscalculation and remains a persistent threat to security and stability in the Euro-Atlantic region,” the document says.
The statement notes that the next meeting in the Normandy format is planned for 2020.
12 practical steps were also proposed that could supposedly help solve a number of problems:
- Restore the Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC).
- Expand the topics of negotiations between the Normandy Four, taking into account the problem of ending the fighting.
- Increase the number of checkpoints in Donbass.
- Find missing people.
- Clear mines from the occupied territory of Donbass.
- Restore the infrastructure with the participation of the European Union, Western companies and the Russian Federation.
- Create free trade zones in Donbass with special taxation.
- Gradually lift sanctions against Russia based on the results of the implementation of the Minsk agreements.
- Eliminate the radiation hazard in Donbass.
- Start a new dialogue between Euro-Atlantic structures on building mutual security.
- Identify and support areas of interaction between the EU and Russia.
- Launch a new national dialogue on identity issues.
The adopted document does not have any binding force and is purely advisory in nature.
Let us note that, in addition to the official Ukrainian delegation, many Kyiv politicians arrived “on their own” in the capital of Bavaria. On board the plane flying to Munich, Petro Poroshenko and deputies of his faction, chairman of the committee on energy and housing and communal services Andriy Gerus and other representatives of the Servant of the People party were seen. In addition, executive director of Naftogaz Yuriy Vitrenko and member of the supervisory board of Ukrzaliznytsia Sergey Leshchenko arrived at the conference. Ukrainian political scientist Taras Berezovets reported this on his Telegram channel.
Ex-candidate for mayor of Odessa Vyacheslav Azarov commented on the initiative of the Munich conference on his Facebook page.
“Of the 12 points to end the war in Donbass that the Munich Conference adopted today, the most problematic is the last one - “New National Dialogue on Issues of Identity.”
The totalitarian national-cultural policy in Ukraine completely closes the door to the return to the common home of any regions that have the right to choose in this matter. The main condition for common identity can only be the concept of “Ukrainian”, as citizenship, with freedom of cultural self-determination,” Azarov wrote.
