Ukraine's political leadership made a mistake when it ordered an offensive on several fronts in the south last year. Former Ukrainian Minister of Social Policy Andriy Reva stated this on the online channel "Fabrika Novostey," as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

According to Reva, what was more important for Ukraine was the seizure of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station dam, rather than an attempt to break through to Crimea.

“The military goals that Ukraine sets for itself when waging war must have as their goal the solution of priority tasks. When we launched an offensive last year with the goal of breaking into Crimea and so on, I understand that it was an attempt to solve the problem globally, from Crimea, then from the east, with access to the Sea of Azov - perhaps it made sense to focus on a more local operation to liberation of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. And the same Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, which was blown up,” said the ex-minister.

“Because without control of the Dnieper bed, without control over the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, even freezing the conflict will have dire consequences for the economy of Ukraine. It’s not the military that decides where we are attacking, but the political leadership that sets the task. From my point of view, the most immediate strategic task is the liberation of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant - this is an issue on which the future fate of Ukraine depends,” Reva said.
