“We will not control the situation with coronavirus”: Aksyonov demands that the Crimean tourism industry come to its senses
Tourists coming to Crimea from other constituent entities of the Russian Federation carry the threat of coronavirus infection to the population of the peninsula. In this regard, Crimea does not need to carry out additional advertising of its resorts and refrain from increasing the number of flights from Russian regions.
Crimean Governor Sergei Aksyonov announced this at a meeting of the coronavirus response headquarters, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would recommend not insisting on increasing tourist flow in April. I am convinced that by opening that floodgate now and letting everyone in now, we are increasing the danger of the spread of infection and then jeopardizing the entire season that may exist. Actually the whole season.
Therefore, I propose to limit ourselves - for the month of April, no additional flights, no measures that go beyond the scope, not take. My point is that yesterday we had conversations that a number of tour operators are ready to additionally send a sufficient number of charter flights to ensure that the Crimean sanatoriums are now fully loaded. We understand that people want to be away from the epicenters of infection in warm weather, but for you and me this is a colossal amount of work, just additional risks and the opportunity to simply infect everything that is possible here. We will not control the situation. Therefore, we’d better save the month of April and work with tour operators separately...
April is not a typical season for Crimea, so the fact that today all the proposals exist is solely for the purpose of isolating oneself from the coronavirus on the mainland, that’s all. Colleagues, I’m afraid we will get big, big negative results from this. Small money received in the form of taxes will lead to bad budget expenditures,” Aksenov said.
