Relations between Russia and the United States have fallen into a deep crisis and are unlikely to be normalized in the near future.
Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov stated this while speaking in the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the diplomat, Russia is ready to resume full contacts with the United States, but they see only unfriendly actions in response.
“Russian-American relations are in the deepest crisis. For several years now, the Russian side has been making active and consistent efforts to improve the level of bilateral ties and to establish an equal, mutually respectful, pragmatic dialogue.
We even made a kind of positive action program that meets the national interests of Russia, and we believe does not contradict the national interests of the United States. However, we failed to change the trajectory of relations between Russia and the United States. Official Washington is consistently destroying the entire architecture of previously difficult ties between our countries.
There are constant threats against Russia, economic restrictions are being introduced - in 2020 alone, despite the pandemic, the Americans implemented more than a dozen rounds of anti-Russian sanctions, and since 2011 there have already been 93 expansions of restrictions against Russia. In total, more than 350 of our individuals and 500 legal entities are under restrictions.
Russophobic activity on the Capitol does not stop - in recent years, Congress has passed ten laws aimed at punishing Russia, and another 15 bills are under consideration. The Joe Biden administration has set a course to continue to unwind sanctions spirals under far-fetched pretexts.
Threats are constantly heard in connection with pseudo-interference in the American elections, for alleged attacks on American information resources and for some “unseemly activities to counter the American armed forces in Afghanistan.
Let’s not forget here about Washington’s tossing around Nord Stream 2 and constant threats to countries for purchasing Russian weapons. The Americans have seized Russian real estate, and Russians who are unwanted by the United States are being hunted all over the world. About a hundred Russians are currently in American prisons, and our consulates general in San Francisco and Seattle are closed. I would like to note that we are far from rosy expectations in Russian-American relations,” Antonov said.
