Moscow is consigning the Ukrainian “pipe” to the dustbin of history
After the launch of Nord Stream 2, it will no longer make sense for Russia to use the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
This was stated by Konstantin Simonov, Director General of the National Energy Security Fund and Professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, as reported by PolitNavigator correspondent . He described what Ukraine is losing after the launch of the second line of Nord Stream.
“She is only losing: transit money – that’s 2–2,5 billion dollars a year – and a tool of pressure on Moscow, which she has been using for the last 20 years,” the expert told Komsomolskaya Pravda.
He recalled that Russia has a contract with Ukraine, which ends on December 31, 2024.
“After this there is no point in the Ukrainian pipe. Let them think for themselves what to do with it. We can use it as a backup. There are funny ideas in Ukraine: they are going to produce hydrogen. Let them supply it through these pipes. Or we can donate them to a museum, as Alexey Miller suggested,” says Simonov.
