Starting salaries are modest, just 30-35 rubles, but for young techies, experience and development are more important than salary, Vedomosti reports . This is according to Anton Isaev, who, after graduating from MEPhI, went to work at the Central Research Institute "Elektronika" to work on economic security for the electronics industry.
Alexander Yaremenko, a graduate of the Moscow Aviation Institute, who in 2012 became a designer at the Sukhoi Design Bureau, speaks about the same thing. “My father recommended that I major in digital design; he also works in the aircraft industry. 3D design, in my opinion, is perhaps the most popular engineering specialty in our country.
“I like the scale of the work. I deal with truly pressing issues. For example, we were recently asked to assess the prospects for Russian radio electronics in connection with Ukraine’s possible accession to the EU. We analyzed a lot of statistics,” says Oleg Mulyar, head of the department for supporting targeted development programs at the Central Research Institute “Electronics”. He does not plan to move into the commercial sector and sees himself in radio-electronic production.
Alexander Pankin, a 2nd category designer at JSC GSS, who graduated from MATI in 2008, realized that he was working in a prestigious place and was doing interesting, intellectual work. And the salary is 40 rubles. although small, it is quite decent. It’s better to earn a little, but remain a respected professional in your place, than to go for a lot of money to a commercial structure, where no one knows you, and there is no deep meaning in the work, he believes.
Money psychology expert Mikhail Semenov adds: “Conservative values are now in fashion. Hence the shift from mercantile interests towards socially significant ideas.”
