World Orthodoxy may turn away from Bartholomew
If Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew decides to grant the so-called “Kyiv Patriarchate” unrecognized in the Orthodox world autocephaly, a split will occur in the Orthodox world.
This was stated on air by the director of the Kyiv Center for Political Research and Conflictology, Mikhail Pogrebinsky, on the Topinform channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the expert, the Ecumenical Patriarch in fact has less power than the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill.
“In the current situation, it is difficult to imagine that Patriarch Kirill and the entire hierarchy would humbly accept the decision of Patriarch Bartholomew, who, generally speaking, has much less power than Kirill... Considering the general Russophobic mood in the West, in the USA and some kind of complex game in which Erdogan plays with Russia, I do not rule out that anything can happen. But this is a conditional victory that can be allowed. If Bartholomew decides that I will sign autocephaly for you, this will be a scandal within the Orthodox Church, which will end in its schism. Moreover, it seems to me that the majority of these fifteen sister churches will be on the side of Moscow and Patriarch Kirill,” predicts Pogrebinsky.
