The Foreign Ministry announced the threat of a serious escalation in Donbass
If the US supplies lethal weapons to Ukraine, it will be violating several of its OSCE commitments. Mikhail Ulyanov, Director of the Department for Nonproliferation and Arms Control of the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated this at a press conference today.

“Ukraine is not under sanctions, and there are no direct bans on the supply of weapons. But there are political documents that strongly discourage taking such steps. These are, for example, the OSCE documents, adopted at one time by consensus: “Principles Governing the Export of Conventional Arms” and “On Small Arms and Light Weapons.” If the United States supplies lethal weapons, we can say that they violated these two documents,” Ulyanov said.
He also noted that the United States has not yet ratified the international arms trade treaty, which prohibits arms deliveries to conflict zones, and therefore is not legally binding on Washington, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The supply decision will be tantamount to trying to add fuel to the fire. As if the voltage level is not enough. I think that even in the American administration many are aware of this. Therefore, such deliveries have not been carried out until now, although the conflict arose quite a long time ago.
If US policy changes now, it threatens a serious aggravation without objective grounds. Nothing like this is happening in Ukraine now that would dictate the need for such dangerous steps,” Ulyanov said.
